My Favourite Vintage Kinetic Necklace

I remember getting this necklace at a church bazaar in Cranbrook when I was about 8 years old.  I loved it instantly.  It reminded me of a card game we had where your goal was to get the right cards to build your creatures body.  There is four sides to this necklace, a mermaid, a body builder man, a raggedy anne type girl, and some sort of unusual ostrich. They are divided into 3 parts that all twist around so that you can mix up their bodies.  Hours of entertainment.  I would love to know more about this necklace but so far my queries have turned up no information.  If anyone knows anything about this necklace please let me know.  vintage kinetic necklaceImagevintage kinetic necklacevintage kinetic jewelryvintage kinetic necklace

  1. I have one as well, my father gave it to me when I was younger. I do not know where it came from but he told me that it was a sailor’s necklace. Mine looks identical except the chain for it is long gone. Mine is on a leather cord instead. It’s been in my possession since at least the mid-90s.

Did you ever find anything about it? There are no artist marks that I can discern.

    • Hi Valerie,
No I still haven’t found out anything about it. I’ve asked a lot of people and no one has ever seen one like it before. I would love to see a picture of yours! I love that there is another one out there! If you can email it to me info at pkkdesign dot com or post it to my facebook page https://www.facebook.com/pkkdesign that would be fantastic!

  2. OH MY WORLD I HAD THAT SAME NECKLACE YEARS AGO. MY MOM GAVE IT TO ME FOR A GIFT. I DON’T KNOW WHERE MINE IS.
    THANK YOU
    CRYSTAL

    • Hi Crystal 🙂
Thanks so much for visiting my jewellery story land! My apologies for the slow reply, I’ve been slowly getting back to business in the new year. I love hearing that other people owned this necklace as well! I still haven’t found out any details on who made them. If you ever dig yours up I would love to see a picture and share it on my blog.
      All the best,
      Patsy

  3. Hello, I have this exact necklace (different chain). I have had it for 32 years & have been trying to figure out what it is for just as long, this is the 1st I have EVER seen another one!!!

    • Hi Kiki! That’s so great. I’d love to see a photo of it if you felt like sharing, my email is hello @patsykay .com I’d love to find out who made these necklaces. Do you know where you got yours?

      • Hi, yes my great uncle gave it to me. The only thing he told me was no matter what anyone ever offers you for it, NEVER part with it… I’ve searched for 32 years trying to find out what it is. In those 32 yrs the only other ones I know of are posted on your page (just found that couple days ago).

    • Hi Terry,
I wish I could! It’s still such a mystery. With yours that now makes 5 or 6 of us who have them but know very little about them. It seems we all got them when we were kids which is interesting. I got mine in Cranbrook BC Canada, the others I believe were all in the US. A little over a year ago I started posting photos in jewelry identification groups but got nothing. Would love to hear more about yours? Where and when you got it. You can email me hello @ patsykay .com
or feel free to comment it on here. One day maybe we will solve this!

      • I have one also! Found this forum 2/19/2024. Are they some sort of circus prize. That is what I was told. I’ve had mine over 50 years and my Mother in law had it before me here in the US.

      • Hi Pat, I’m curious what you searched that found my post? A circus prize!? That’s so interesting. Is yours the exact same as mine which is pictured? I would so love to find out who made them. Every once in a while I sit down and do a bit more searching but haven’t found anything else.

      • Exactly the same chain and all. I took a picture of mine and used Google Lens and it took me right to your page because your picture is available.

  4. I have the pendant, it belonged to my Mother. She collected jewelry her whole life mostly from Thrift Stores. My daughter loved to play with it as a child so it will be passed on to her some day. Would love to discover more about it.

    • A very slow response to your comment! Sorry, I don’t monitor this site as much as I used to. If you have any idea which part of the world your Mother may have purchased it in, I’d love to know. I’ve spent a lot of time looking for more info on this necklace but have turned up nothing.

  5. Hi there,

Joining in to say I also own this exact necklace. It was my grandmothers and i believe she got it at an art fair over 30 years ago. She passed away last year and my mother, who knew i loved this piece so much, just gave it to me for my birthday. I found this website by using reverse google search. I can email you a picture of mine. It’s on a great chain too. It is my most prized possession now.

    • Hi, Welcome to a very tiny club who own this mysterious necklace. Would love to see a photo if you want to email it to me hello at patsykay .com Do you know which part of the world your grandmother would have purchased it in? Every time I try to find out who made this necklace I get nowhere.
